
Prof. Dr. Engr. Mohammad Zoynal Abedin, PEng
Prof. Dr. Engr. Mohammad Zoynal Abedin is the current Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology, Gazipur. Professor Abedin served as the President of the Association of Universities of Bangladesh (AUB) from 21 October 2025 to 31 December 2025. Professor Abedin is also serving as the Chairman of the Gazipur Centre of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB). Professor Abedin has joined in the BAETE11 as a Board member in 2025. Dr. Abedin is also actively engaged as a member of the Committee of Experts (CoE) for reviewing the HEAT12 project at UGC.
Professor Abedin worked as a Dean in the Faculty of ME of DUET from 14 June 2017 to 13 June 2019. Professor Abedin also worked as a Head of Mechanical Engineering Department of DUET from 15 May 2019 to 14 May 2021. In addition, Professor Abedin worked as a Director of the Consultancy Research and Testing Service (CRTS) of DUET from 8 February 2022 to 19 February 2024. Professor Abedin also served as a Member of DUET Syndicate from 19 December 2018 to 13 June 2019. Dr. Abedin served as an Editor and Editor-in-Chief of the DUET Journal. Dr. Abedin has been serving as an Editor of the International Journal of Engineering Materials and Manufacture published by Deerhill Publications, USA since 2018. Professor Abedin has more than 25 years’ experience of teaching, research, innovation, publications and professional services along with the national and international projects as a lead designer, technical expert and consultant. Professor Abedin has vast experiences in teaching as an Adjunct Faculty member in various Universities such as IUT14, BAUST15, MIST16, and IUBAT17.
Professor Abedin completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from NIT, Japan, specializing in Thermo-Fluid Mechanics, Turbulence, Boundary Layer Flows, and Fluid Dynamics in 2010. His academic foundation was further solidified with a M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from BUET, Dhaka in 2004 and 1998, respectively. Professor Abedin’s academic journey includes Postdoctoral Fellowship in the fields of HVAC18, SITVC19, and CFD20 at Yonsei University, South Korea from 2015 to 2016, followed by a Postdoctoral Fellowship focusing on HVAC, heat transfer, and bubble dynamics at Incheon National University, South Korea from 2016 to 2017. Professor Abedin’s research expertise spans a wide range of domains including Convective Heat Transfer, Turbulence, SITVC, Two-phase Flows, Alternative Fuels, HVAC, Computational Heat and Fluid Flow, Fire Dynamics, Waste Management, and CFD.
Professor Abedin has made substantial contributions to the academic community, with approximately 100 publications in international scholarly journals and conferences. Additionally, Professor Abedin has supervised and guided 270 students across various academic levels, including Ph.D., M.Sc., M.Eng., and B.Sc., who have successfully completed their theses and been awarded their respective degrees under his mentorship.
Dr. Abedin visited a large number of countries while attending conferences, meetings and workshops as USA, Japan, South Korea, Türkiye, UAE, KSA, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Nepal and India.
Professor Abedin is actively engaged as a lead designer, technical expert and consultant in Mechanical and Electrical Plumbing (MEP) projects, and Fire Safety system and Energy Management systems, both nationally and internationally. Dr. Abedin also involved in the Master Plan project of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) named as “Preparation of Urban Development Plan of Gazipur City Corporation Area” which was done by DUET, Gazipur from 2022 to 2024. Professor Abedin served as a Lead Designer, Consultant and Technical Expert in the various projects of DUET such as Central Auditorium Air Conditioning system, Fire Safety system, and Smart Class Room system etc.
