4th International Symposium on Quality Assurance in Engineering Education through Accreditation: Transforming Engineering Education through Implementing Enhanced Graduate Attributes
Download Symposium IV 2025 Flyer
BACKGROUND
The Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE) was established as an
independent body by the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) to carry out accreditation of
engineering degree programs in this country. As the sole accreditation body for engineering degree
programs in Bangladesh, BAETE is entrusted to ensure that the accredited programs meet or exceed
global quality standards. The most significant milestone that BAETE achieved so far is to become a
full signatory of the Washington Accord (WA) in 2023. Engineering degree programs accredited by
BAETE are now recognized as being substantially equivalent by other signatory countries, including
the USA, UK, and Australia.
The primary function of BAETE is to conduct rigorous accreditation to evaluate the quality of
engineering degree programs. This is to ensure that engineering graduates achieve the intended
program outcomes by the time of their graduation and are prepared to enter the engineering
profession. BAETE also plays a vital role in capacity building, by conducting training sessions,
workshops, seminars etc., to help universities to improve their educational standards and to promote
a culture of continuous improvement.
BAETE recently adopted enhanced quality standards enshrined in its new Accreditation Manual Version
3. This new version is intended to meet the global standards required by the Graduate Attributes and
Professional Competences (GAPC) Version 4 of the Washington Accord and to cater to contemporary
national needs.
In this context, the fourth International Symposium on Quality Assurance in Engineering Education
through Accreditation, a signature event of BAETE, is being organized during December 8-9, 2025 at
the hotel InterContinental Dhaka. It is intended to serve as a platform where academia,
accreditation professionals, industry and policy makers will share experiences and best practices.
They will discuss the latest trends and innovations in engineering education and accreditation, and
challenges lying ahead. This platform provides excellent opportunities for knowledge exchange,
networking, and collaborative initiatives to shape the future.
