Muhammed Alamgir is a Member at the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh for two consecutive four years term since 16 June 2019. He is a Professor of Civil Engineering at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) since 2002, where he has been serving for more than 36 years from 1986. He was the former Vice-Chancellor of KUET from 2010 to 2018. He obtained B.Sc. Eng. (1986) & M.Sc. Eng. (1989) degrees in Civil Engineering from BUET, Dhaka and Ph.D. (1996) from Saga University, Japan. He was awarded JSPS Post-Doctoral Fellowship for 18 months (1986-1998) at Japan, NST Senior Fellowship of Govt. of Bangladesh for 1998-2000. His research areas cover Solid Waste & Faecal Sludge Management, Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Engineering and Climate Change Issues. He successfully completed several research projects funded by the Government of Bangladesh and the European Commission. He was involved in the formulation of Bangladesh National Qualifications Framework (BNQF), Guideline for Outcome Based Education (OBE) Curriculum and other issues at national level related to improve the Quality in Higher Education in Bangladesh. He is credited with 255 technical papers published in conference & journal proceedings. He is the Founder & immediate past Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Engineering Science (JES) published from KUET since 2010. Prof. Alamgir is a Board Member of International Waste Working Group (IWWG). He is the Chair of WasteSafe International Conference since 2009 held in Khulna in every odd year. He is also a part-time Member of Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC). He is the Vice-Chairman of BdREN (Bangladesh Education & Research Network). He is the Chairman of Ethics Board of the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB). He is also a member of advisory Board of Detritus Multidisciplinary Journal. He is also a fellow of Institute of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) and a lifetime member of Bangladesh Association of Advancement of Sciences (BAAS). For research and professional activities, he visited 26 countries. He was born in 1963.
